THE exclusive motorcycle lane dry run along Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City, supposed to end yesterday, has been extended for another week, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said they extended the dry run to enable the Department of Public Works and Highways to “complete the patching works” it has been doing in the area since last week and to give motorists more time to be familiar with the policy.
“We opted to continue the dry run of the exclusive motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Ave. from Elliptical Road to Doña Carmen and vice versa until March 26. With another week of dry run, we hope to inform more motorists to avoid confusion before the full implementation,” Artes said.
The dry run started last March 9 and was supposed to last until March 19, followed by full implementation today, Monday.
Data provided by the agency showed that 12,370 motorists have been flagged down and warned over the past two weeks. Of the figure, 2,931 are motorcycle riders while 9, 439 are private vehicles.
The motorcycle lane along Commonwealth Ave.is meant to reduce the number of fatal road crashes involving motorcycles and improve traffic flow.
Data from the MMDA’s Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS) showed a total of 1,686 or five cases per day of motorcycle-related road crash incidents along Commonwealth Ave. were recorded in 2022, with 13 cases resulting in fatal injuries, 930 in non-fatal injuries, and 743 in damage to property.
