“Welcome aboard, Usec. Cascolan,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Before his retirement, Cascolan said he was open to accepting a post in the government after he bows out of the PNP.

Commenting on his appointment, Cascolan said: “Three points only. First of all, thank you for the trust and confidence that the President has given me. Second is I hope to keep in step to the standards of the OP or the Office of the President. Number three, of course is I will give my best.”

Cascolan is the second former PNP chief under the Duterte administration to be given a post in the government after retirement. The first was Ronald dela Rosa who was named head of the Bureau of Corrections before he ran and won in the senatorial elections in 2019.

Cascolan graduated from Philippine Military Academy in 1986 and was detailed in Maguindanao as a member of the Philippine Constabulary Special Action Force in Central Mindanao (former Region XII) before he joined the PNP in 1992.

He served in various positions in the PNP including chief of police of the Barotac Nuevo municipality in Iloilo, of Ayu in Iloilo, and Balasan also in Iloilo, and later of the Taguig City police. — With Jocelyn Montemayor
