THE National Bureau of Investigation arrested former Presidential Commission on Good Government chairman Camilo Sabio based on a warrant of arrest issued by the Fourth Division of the Sandiganbayan last Friday.

NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said Sabio was served the arrest warrant in connection with the judgment in one of the cases he is facing before the anti-graft court.

“The warrant was served in his residence in Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City by personnel from the NBI Technical Information Division and the Intelligence Division,” Lavin said in a text message.

He said Sabio was still at the NBI main office as of Sunday.

A statement issued by the NBI said Sabio, after undergoing booking procedure, was brought to the Sandiganbayan also on Friday but the anti-graft court was closed due to the disinfection being done in connection with the COVID-19.

“Sabio was then returned to the NBI detention center. He will be presented before the Sandiganbayan on Monday,” the NBI statement said.

Sabio, 85, was found guilty of graft by the Sandiganbayan in November 2019 after he tried to persuade his brother, Jose Sabio, then the acting chair of the Court of Appeals division, to favor a Government Service Insurance System official who asked for his help.
Sabio headed the PCGG from 2005 to 2010.
