Operatives of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group killed a former New People’s Army (NPA) rebel who they were supposed to arrest for the crime of murder he reportedly committed more than 20 years ago.
Killed was Emmanuel Sampani, alias Arnold Sampani, a former member of the NPA’s Narciso Antaso Aramil Command operating in the Calabarzon region.
AKG spokesman Maj. Ronaldo Lumactod said Sampani was ordered arrested by a Rizal Court in August 1998 for a murder case in Rizal, which prompted the NPA to re-assign him to Quezon. However, Sampani was expelled from the NPA during his stint in Quezon for allegedly raping a comrade.
Lumactod said Sampani then went to Negros Occidental and joined a syndicate involved in gun-for-hire, land grabbing, and gunrunning activities, and assumed the name Arnold Sampani.
Intelligence operations led authorities to Sampani’s whereabouts in Barangay Dulao in Bago City.
