A FORMER New People’s Army rebel was abducted and subsequently killed by the communist insurgents on Monday in Matuguinao town in Samar, two years after he returned to the government fold.
Carlos Diaz, 50, is the fifth former NPA rebel to be killed this year in Eastern Visayas by former comrades, said the Army’s 8th Infantry Division.
8th ID spokesman Capt. Reynaldo Aragones said Diaz was seized by eight NPA rebels while tending to his farm in Barangay Nagpapacao at around 7:30 a.m., then “brutally killed” by the insurgents.
Aragones said Diaz was shot several times in the head and in different parts of this body.
Lt. Col. Jasper Pecson, commander of the 19th Infantry Battalion, said the NPA killed Diaz to instill fear among former rebels now living normal and peaceful lives with their families.
