OPERATIVES of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group arrested a former policeman in San Fernando City, Pampanga last Friday, nearly 12 years after he allegedly raped an 18-year-old woman in Iloilo, it was reported yesterday.
AKG spokesman Maj. Ronaldo Lumactod identified the suspect as former SPO2 Leonardo Soberano, formerly assigned with the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, who went absent without official leave after allegedly committing the crime.
Lumactod said Soberano was arrested by AKG operatives, in coordination with the San Fernando City police, at around 12:30 p.m. in Barangay San Agustin, San Fernando City.
Soberano’s arrest was covered by an arrest warrant issued by an Iloilo City court in 2010 for the rape of the victim in March 2009 in Iloilo.
Lumactod said Soberano also has a standing warrant of arrest for attempted homicide issued by another Iloilo City court.
“Soberano went AWOL after the commission of the crime and went into hiding in different areas to elude arrest,” said Lumactod.
