TROPICAL depression “Ester” exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) yesterday but will continue to bring rains in some parts of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In a bulletin, PAGASA said Ester left PAR at around 5 a.m. and was last seen some 915 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon.
Ester packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kms near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kms as it moved northward at 30 kph. It is forecast to move generally north northwestward towards the East China Sea.
Ester developed into a tropical depression, from a low pressure area, last Thursday afternoon. While it did not make landfall, it brought rains in parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and the Visayas throughout the weekend.
In its weather advisory yesterday, PAGASA said Ester and the southwest monsoon will continue to bring light to heavy rains in Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.
“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in the areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in the hazards maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” warned the weather bureau.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Pangasinan, the Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Quezon) region, the rest of Central Luzon and the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
