Erik Santos has always been known for his powerful voice, capable of touching audiences and moving them to tears. However, it is not just his music that has been stirring souls, but his willingness to open up about his grief on losing both his parents and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
The “Pop Ballad Royalty” recently shared his journey of healing after losing his parents, who succumbed to cancer just nine months apart. As Erik navigates the path of grief, he has found purpose by partnering with Anchor of Hope & Strength, an organization dedicated to supporting cancer warriors and their families. This inspiring initiative is headed by the compassionate oncologist, Dr. Charity Viado-Gorospe, who had offered her services free of charge in caring for Erik’s beloved mother during her battle with cancer. Dr. Charity founded the organization in 2016, and Erik’s connection to her and the organization has brought a renewed sense of purpose to his life.

“Thank you for giving me a purpose in life,” Erik humbly expressed to the members of Anchor of Hope & Strength during the partnership’s launch last Friday, September 21 at the Episode Bar + Kitchen in Quezon City.
But Erik’s commitment to Anchor of Hope & Strength extends beyond words. He has pledged to raise funds for the medical needs of its members and has promised to support all future projects, generously offering his talent for fundraising activities. He has also dedicated a portion of the proceeds from his upcoming twentieth-anniversary show at the Mall of Asia Arena on October 6, aptly titled “milEStone,” to the organization. Erik, who is also one of the producers of the concert, will be joined by good friends Sheryn Regis, Yeng Constantino, Darren Espanto and Angeline Quinto. At the helm of “milEStone” will be John Prats, with Homer Flores acting as musical director.
When asked about how he manages to maintain his health and appearance despite the numerous personal challenges he has faced, Erik responded with grace and candor. He attributes his well-being to the grace of God and, admitting that he is vain, acknowledges the importance of visits to his dermatologist, a commitment to regular exercise, and eating a healthy diet. The 40-year-old singer believes it is a performer’s responsibility to his audience to present himself in the best possible way, as he continues to inspire people through his artistry.
Where does he get the inspiration to go on? Erik admitted that he is still in a state of grief. “If you would ask me, ‘pag binuksan mo ang puso ko, I am still broken, I am still healing and still in the process of recovery sa pagkawala sa dalawa sa pinakamamahal kong tao sa buong mundo sa buhay ko.”
Despite the pain, he finds strength in the thought that his parents are watching over him, smiling at the good he is doing for others who have experienced similar hardships.
While Erik prays to find a life partner in the future, he acknowledges he is still healing mentally and psychologically. When asked about the qualities he seeks in a partner, he emphasized the importance of inner and outer beauty, understanding his profession, and having a compatible personality. He hopes to find someone who can adjust to his life as he adjusts to theirs, fostering a harmonious and loving relationship.
“…I hope makilala ko na ang aking ‘the one.’ Syempre naman, hindi rin maganda ang mag-isa sa buhay. Hopefully and I am really praying in the near near future na magkaroon na rin ako ng isang pamilya,” he said. — GFCT
