FORMER President and Manila mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to an undisclosed hospital, according to his children.
Former senator and San Juan mayor Jinggoy Estrada, in a statement, said his father was brought to the hospital after feeling weak on Sunday night.
“He’s in stable condition and I ask for your prayers for his immediate recovery,” Jinggoy said.
Another son, former senator, congressman and San Juan mayor JV Ejercito, also confirmed in his Twitter page that his father has been hospitalized and asked for support and prayers.
Estrada was elected president in 1998 but stepped down in 2001 and was later convicted for plunder. He was pardoned by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
He served as Manila mayor for two terms starting in 2013 but lost to incumbent Mayor Isko Moreno in 2019.
