AUTHORITIES seized equipment being used in the manufacture of shabu during a raid of a warehouse in Maitum town in Sarangani last Sunday, it was reported yesterday.
The Chinese owner of the warehouse, identified as Tommy Go, was not around during the raid, the Sarangani police provincial office said.
The warehouse, located at Sitio Sagel, Barangay Pinol in Maitum, was raided at 8:45 a.m. by a search warrant issued by Sarangani Judge Catherine Supeda.
The raid was conducted by police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives and soldiers from the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion.
Seized from the warehouse were scores of equipment used in the production of shabu.
The Sarangani police said a case will be filed against the suspect for violation of Section 26 (attempt or conspiracy), in relation to Section 8 (manufacture of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals), Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Sarangani Gov. Rogelio Pacquiao commended the personnel involved in the successful operation “for their outstanding work and collaboration in combating illegal drugs.
“This operation is a significant victory in our fight against illegal drugs,” said Pacquiao.
He said the raid preempted “the activities of an alleged clandestine laboratory.”
“Additionally, it has come to our attention that the suspected financier behind this operation is a Chinese,” the governor added.
