THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded employers to strictly observe the pay rules set for today’s (Monday) holiday in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day.
In a statement, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said it is imperative for all private establishments to follow the pay rules during a special non-working day like August 21.
“DOLE reminds private sector employers and workers of the proper payment of wages on August 21, Ninoy Aquino Day,” said Laguesma.
Under pay rules, employees who render work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their basic wage for the first eight hours while those who render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.
Employees on off days or rest days who report for work shall be paid an additional 50 percent of their basic wage for the first eight hours while those who render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.
Employees who do not report for work shall receive no pay under the “no work, no pay” principle.
Proclamation No. 90 – 2022 declared August 21 as a special non-working day in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day.
