THE Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) in Rome yesterday assured the faithful that Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, former archbishop of Manila, is in good health and doing his job as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
In a statement released by the Archdiocese of Manila, PCF rector Fr. Gregory Ramon Gaston said there is no truth to claims that Tagle is in the country confined at the De La Salle University Medical Center in Dasmariñas City in Cavite.
Gaston said there is “hacked” email account “being used to solicit money for Cardinal Tagle’s alleged hospitalization in UMC De La Salle.”
“The hacked email containing the fraudulent appeal bears the name of Dr. Ramon Ramos from Imus, Cavite (Cardinal Tagle’s hometown),” he added.
It was not the first time as Tagle’s personal email was hacked in 2015 while he was still serving as archbishop of Manila. Before he flew to the Vatican in January 2020 for his new assignment, a fraudulent text message also circulated asking for cash donations to buy a gift for Tagle.
Gaston said Tagle “is doing well in Rome, carrying out his ministry at the Vatican as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.”
Proof of this, he said, is that Tagle was recently received by Pope Francis on March 22 with residents of the PCF during its 60th anniversary celebration.
