TEEN phenom Alex Eala and Russian Oksana Selekhemetava opened their campaign in the French Open girls doubles tourney by subdued the tandem of Evialina Laskevich of Belarus and Alina Shcherbininia 6-4, 6-4 yesterday at Roland Garros in Paris.
The doubles victory somewhat made up for the earlier loss of Eala, who was seeded second but was bundled out by Briton Matilda Mutavdzic 6-4, 6-7 (4-6), 1-6 in the girls singles.
Seeded first in girls doubles, Eala and Selekhemetava will next tackle the the duo of Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas and Finland’s Laura Hietaranta, who beat the Russian squad of Ekaterina Maklakova and Maria Sholokhova, 7-5, 6-3.
