THE campaign against online “sabong” (cockfight) or “e-sabong” has resulted in the arrest of 1,245 individuals during the administration of President Marcos Jr, the PNP reported yesterday.

“The extensive crackdown on e-sabong illegal gambling underscores our unwavering commitment to the rule of law,” PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr said.

Acorda said the “significant number of arrests” in the war against e-sabong “demonstrates that the PNP remains steadfast in maintaining peace and order in our communities.”

“We will continue to relentlessly pursue those who violate the law, ensuring that justice prevails for the betterment of society,” he vowed.

Acorda commended police operatives for their dedication in the crackdown against e-sabong, which was banned in May last year by former President Duterte due to its effects to families.

In December last year, President Marcos Jr issued an executive order ordering the continued suspension of e-sabong activities.

Citing data from the PNP Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of the PNP Public Information Office, said “collaborative efforts” of PNP units led to the arrest of 1,245 individuals from July 1 last year to August 15 this year.
