OVER P7.83 million worth of food and non-food assistance has been distributed to 57,470 families or 279,074 persons affected by flash floods due to thunderstorms brought about by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DSWD-DROMIC) showed that those affected were from 166 barangays in Regions VI (Western Visayas), IX (Zamboanga Peninsula), XI (Davao), XII (Soccsksargen) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
At least 233 families (953 persons) are staying in 10 evacuation centers while 2,936 families (12,618 persons) are staying with relatives or friends.
DSWD said it still has P1.8 billion worth of cash (P75.587 million) and stockpiles of food and on-food relief items (P1.72 billion) on standby.
Incessant moderate to heavy rains in parts of Mindanao since September 17 have led to floods in some low lying barangays in the five regions.
