PRESIDENT Duterte is expected to attend the virtual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week hosted by New Zealand on November 12, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said yesterday.

“The President is expected to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC on November 12 via video conferencing,” Roque said.

Among the events that Duterte is expected to attend include the APEC opening and closing ceremonies and Handover of the APEC chairmanship to Thailand, the leaders’ sessions, and separate meetings with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and the International Monetary Fund, among others.

APEC, in its website, said this year’s summit agenda will be focused on the “region’s response to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the opportunity to build a more resilient future.”

APEC is a regional economic forum established in 1989 to create greater prosperity for the people of the region and composed of 21 member economies, namely, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, United States; Viet Nam, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei.
