PRESIDENT Duterte is expected to join his fellow leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations when they attend a commemorative summit with South Korea on November 25 to 26 in Busan.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and concurrent presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, in a radio interview yesterday, said the President is also expected to have a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the sidelines of the 30th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit to discuss trade, security and other issues of common concern between Manila and Seoul.

“Most likely, basta naman may foreign business, palagi namang may bilateral (Most likely, whenever there a bilateral meeting, there is always a bilateral,” Panelo said.

“Kung anong dapat na pag-usapan kaugnay sa pangangalakal, sa seguridad, lahat ng common concern ng dalawang bansa na magmi-meet, iyun ng palaging pinag-uusapan.

Lagi namang SOP iyun (Whatever needs to be discussed in connection with trade, with security, all the common concern of the two countries that would be meeting, that would be discussed. That is always the SOP),” he added.

Duterte and Moon just met during the ASEAN Plus Three and ASEAN East Asia Summit at the sideline of the 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Thailand last Nov. 2 to 4.

The President had recognized South Korea’s innovation and smart city developments under the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) during those meetings.
Duterte last visited South Korea in June 2018.

This will be South Korea’s third time to host the Commemorative Summit with ASEAN, with the first one held in Jeju in 2009 and the second in Busan in 2014.
