DAVAO City Vice Mayor and presidential son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte yesterday said there are “signs” his father would endorse the presidential bid of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

But he pointed only to the endorsement made by a faction of the PDP-Laban party headed by President Duterte and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

The faction earlier endorsed Marcos’ running mate, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. The President himself has yet to make an announcement.

“Hindi pa natin alam (kung i-e-endorse), but there are signs na nakita na natin, ang PDP-Laban, nag-release na ng statement na they’re supporting BBM (Marcos). So I hope the President will express his support to BBM [We do not know yet if he will endorse, but there are signs that we can already see, ang PDP-Laban has already released a statement that they’re supporting Marcos, so I hope the President will express his support to Marcos,” the vice mayor said, representing his sister, said in an ambush interview during the UniTeam campaign rally at the Polomolok Gym in Koronadal City.

The vice mayor also said said 80 to 85 percent of Davao is supporting Marcos and they are pushing to raise it to more than 90 percent.

He described Marcos as a “true gentleman,” despite some vicious attacks against him. He expressed belief only Marcos can continue what his father has started.

Marcos attended another interview with the Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) channel where he talked of his foreign policies if he wins the presidency, such as maintaining and strengthening ties with the United States and his being open to a state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Marcos also said he tends to be conservative when making decisions in order to avoid mistakes.

“It’s a way of being careful and being very, very knowledgeable about what other things that come into play so that you will achieve success, whatever that success, however, you define that success,” he said adding that in that sense he may be a Machiavellian but he is “essentially an optimist” especially because he believes that the country’s biggest asset is the Filipino people.

Marcos also had an interview with radio DZRJ, where he highlighted the need to accelerate the industrialization of crucial sectors in the country to create more jobs for Filipinos.
