PRESIDENT Duterte yesterday said he will remain the people’s servant when his six-year term ends on June 30, moments after casting his vote in Davao City for the 2022 national and local elections.
“Thank you very much to all of you for making me President. I will remain your servant…
And I will stay here in Davao. Even as a civilian, I will still help you. Just like what I promised when I first became mayor, I am Rodrigo Duterte, and I will remain your servant. Thank you very much,” he said in the local dialect.
He arrived before 5 p.m. at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in Davao City and immediately proceeded to precinct 1245A. Duterte carried with him his “kodigo” or the list of candidates that he voted for.
He did not endorse any presidential candidate but had endorsed the candidacies of his children, Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is running for vice president; Paolo Duterte, who is running for Davao representative; and Sebastian Duterte, who is running for mayor of Davao City, along with several senatorial candidates.
After voting, Duterte signed the armchair that he used. The school intends to preserve and place it in a museum, similar to the armchair that Dutete-Carpio signed earlier in the day when she cast her vote.
Duterte later thanked the people who were still in the school for their support that led to him becoming president and for their continued support to him and his children.
He also reiterated that while he will be citizen Duterte after June, he will continue to serve the public.
“Daghang salamat sa inyong tanan sa paghimo nakong Presidente. Ako magpabilin inyong sulugoon…Unya ako nia ra sa Davao so basig civilian na ko, og unsa may akong mahimo nimo, sama sa akong giingon niadto pa pagsugod nako pagka-mayor, ako si Rodrigo Duterte, magpabilin inyong sulugoon. Daghang Salamat,” said.
