THE Duterte Cabinet is set to report to the public a summary of the administration’s accomplishments for the past six years, including an assessment if the government was able to realize its “tapang at malasakit” commitment, about a month before President Duterte steps down from office.
“This summit will also serve as a culminating activity of our Duterte Legacy campaign that promotes the landmark programs and achievements of the Duterte administration in all sectors of the community,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary and acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said.
The two-day Duterte Legacy Summit, organized by the PCOO- Global Media and Public Affairs (OGMPA), will be held today and tomorrow at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
“The two-day event will be our last act of thanking and recognizing the ‘tapang at malasakit’ governance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, his cabinet members, and all public servants which have brought impactful changes and meaningful developments to the Filipino people,” Andanar said.
The President’s term ends at noon of June 30, and he transfers the leadership to president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
A taped message from President Duterte will be aired during the event, where executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea will deliver the keynote speech and Cabinet Secretary Melvin Matibag will give the closing remarks.
Andanar said the Duterte administration’s six Cabinet clusters will report on their achievements based on the government’s 10-point socioeconomic agenda, namely, Security, Justice and Peace, Infrastructure Development, Economic Development, Climate Change Adaptation, Mitigation, and Disaster Risk Reduction, Participatory Governance, and Human Development and Poverty Reduction.
The summit will also feature key campaign promises of the Duterte administration that were realized, such as the Universal Health Care Law and Malasakit Center, Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education, Bangsamoro Organic Law, anti-illegal drugs campaign, and migrant workers’ protection, as well as the impact of government programs based on testimonies of beneficiaries.
Among those set to report during the summit campaign are Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rolando Bautista, Public Works Acting Secretary Roger Mercado, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Environment Acting Secretary Jim Sampulna and Presidential Adviser for COVID response Vince Dizon.
Also presenting their agency’s reports are Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Commission on Higher Education chief Prospero De Vera III, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Education Secretary Leonor Briones, Technical Education chief Isidor Lapena, and Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.,
Foreign Affairs undersecretary Mara Theresa Lazaro, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency head Wilkins Villanueva, Philippine National Police Chief Vicente Danao Jr., and Presidential Task force on media security Undersecretary Joel Egco are also presenting their accomplishments.
The PCOO and the Bureau of Communications Services (BCS) will also have a Duterte Legacy Photo Exhibit featuring significant and momentous events made by the administration since July 2016, as well as unveiling the PCOO Legacy book featuring the accomplishments and much improved operations of the agency and its attached agencies.
The book also features the government’s advanced and intensified methods of communications to reach more Filipinos.
“This is our final report. This will leave a lasting and remarkable mark to the public on how the Duterte administration did its job in the name of public service,” Andanar said.
The President’s former aide and long-time ally turned senator, Christopher Go, said Duterte has already packed some of his things and sent them to his home in Davao where he will stay during his retirement from public office.
“Tungkol naman sa ating mahal na Pangulong Duterte, nagsisimula na siyang magligpit ng mga gamit pauwi sa kanilang tahanan sa Davao City. Doon siya mananatili sa kanyang retirement bilang private citizen kapiling ang kanyang pamilya (About our beloved President Duterte, he has started to pack his things to be shipped to Davao City. He will stay there after he retires as a private citizen, together with his family),” he said.
Go said it is sad that the term of the President is nearing its end because he still wants to do and accomplish a lot of things for the country.
Duterte in the past weeks started to thank the public for their support during his six-year term as president and apologized to the public if they are not satisfied with what he has been able to do during his term. He said six years is not enough for him to realize all his promises.
