DSWD gives P2.3M aid to storm-affected residents

GOVERNMENT has released P2.38 million worth of assistance to families affected by tropical storm “Dante” which has exited the country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said yesterday.

DSWD said it has released P911,096 worth of cash, food and on-food relief items while local government units (LGUs) provided P1,475,988 worth of aid or a total of P2.38 million.

DSWD said 29,170 families or 122,042 persons from 467 barangays located in Central Luzon (Region III), Calabarzon (Region IV-A), Mimaropa (Region IV-B), Western Visayas (Region VI), Central Visayas (Region VII), Eastern Visayas (Region VIII), Davao (Region XI), Soccsksargen (Region XII) and Caraga were affected by the storm.

It added that as of June 5, at least 240 families or some 860 persons were still taking temporary shelter in six evacuation centers in the Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions while 14 families or 35 persons are staying with relatives and/or friends in Mimaropa.

Dante, the fourth tropical cyclone to hit the country this year, dumped heavy rains in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao that resulted in floods and landslides in some areas. It also left eight fatalities.
