PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has ordered the dismissal of a policeman who allegedly owned the 990 kilos of shabu worth P6.7 billion seized during a raid in Manila last October.
PNP spokesman Col. Jean Fajardo said Azurin approved the dismissal of M/Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr. on the recommendation of the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS), which looked into the administrative culpability of the policeman.
Mayo, last assigned with the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), was arrested in Manila on October 9 last year for possession of two kilos of shabu.
A lending firm owned by Mayo in Manila that was raided by PDEG operatives a day earlier yielded 990 kilos of shabu.
IAS conducted an administrative investigation against Mayo, on top of the criminal charges filed against him, and found him guilty of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer last January.
IAS subsequently recommended to Azurin the dismissal of Mayo from the police service.
After at least two months of review, Azurin finally approved the recommendation.
“The dismissal order against Sgt. Mayo is now for implementation after the chief PNP signed the order, dismissing him from the PNP service last March 6, 2023,” Fajardo told a press briefing at Camp Crame yesterday.
Fajardo said all benefits due to Mayo had been forfeited as a result of Azurin’s order.
“He’s not going to receive anything. All the privileges he gained when he was still a policeman, definitely he is not going to receive any. His retirement benefits are forfeited,” said Fajardo.
Fajardo said Mayo was given the chance to defend himself during the IAS investigation but did not do so.
“He was given the opportunity to submit his counter-affidavit but he opted not to submit and the case was resolved based on the evidence on record,” said Fajardo.
“His non-submission of his counter-affidavit was deemed as a waiver of his right to present evidence to counter or deny the allegation imputed against him with respect to his arrest relative to the confiscation of 990 kilos of shabu,” said Fajardo.
Fajardo said the dismissal of Mayo serves as a reminder to all policemen that the PNP leadership will not tolerate any wrongdoing in the organization.
