Dramatic changes in the return of ‘The World Between Us’

“The World Between Us” shakes things up on its return to primetime after its season break.

Main cast members Alden Richards, Jasmine Curtis Smith, Tom Rodriguez and Dina Bonnevie are back with new learnings and dramatic transformations.

Alden’s Louie Asuncion looks sleeker — to reflect the change in fortune that the character underwent. And Alden went all out. He committed to changing his look — from his built to his style. He hit the gym and slimmed down. He also admitted during a recent Zoom press con that some of the things Louie used, like the cars in a scene from the show, were his own.

The actor, in his self-deprecating nature, explained that since it was the pandemic, the vehicles were just in the garage and so they were put to good use.

Dina’s character, Rachel Libradilla, also underwent some change. In reality, the award-winning actress, change is inevitable for an actor because it signals growth. The opposite — stagnation — spells death, she also said.

“As an actor you have to continue studying and honing your craft. When you stop honing your craft, that’s the death of your career,” she explained. “Wala ka na bagong ihahain sa mga manonood mo. Kaya what I do is I watch a lot of movies… Sometimes I binge on Netflix. Inaaral ko ang character ko, but I also allow my character to be affected organically. I allow myself to be affected kung sino ang kaeksena ko.

“Halimbawa pag kaeksena ko si Alden, kung ano ibibigay sa akin ni Alden, mag re react ako dun. Natututunan ko ang timing, although I already know that, pero natututunan ko rin timing ng ibang artista. ‘Yung tinatawag na kontra tiyempo. … dun mo natututunan kung paano sagutin ‘yung timing na hindi kapareho sa yo, na dapat alam mo paano isayaw iyon.”

The actress feeds off from the intensity and the artistry of her co-actors. It’s a two-way street. “The World Between Us” I draw from personal experiences to prepare for a scene.

Pinapanood ko rin ang young actors, how they do it. I pick up nuggets of wisdow or style on how they prepare. I think we all learn from one another, and we teach one another. ‘Yan ang essence ng ensemble project. Lahat kayo may parte sa pagpapaganda sa pelikula. Pag ensemble acting, lahat kayo importante.”

“The World Between Us” returns on primetime on GMA this Monday, November 22, 8:50 p.m.
