NONITO Donaire Jr. and John Riel Casimero have vowed a no-holds-barred slugfest in their all-Filipino unification title clash for their world bantamweight belts on Aug. 14 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson City, USA.
They gave separate video interviews with fighthype.com last Sunday (Saturday in the US) on the forthcoming match shortly after witnessing Japan’s Naoya Inoue knock out Filipino Michael Dasmarinas in the third round to retain his World Boxing Association super bantam and International Boxing Federation bantamweight crowns at the Virgins Hotel in Las Vegas.
“I will do my best to win this fight. This is my dream come true,” said Casimero, who holds the World Boxing Organization bantamweight title.
“You know, I have a great left hook, too,” the cocky Casimero, who has a record of 30 wins, 21 by knockout, against four losses, said when asked if he should be wary of Donaire’s “killer punch,” a left hook, that enabled him to capture the World Boxing Council bantamweight strap from Nourdine Oubaali.
Donaire used the same blow to stop the erstwhile unbeaten Frenchman in the fourth round last May 29 at the same Carson City arena to become the world’s oldest bantamweight kingpin at 38.
“Apparently, I’m the greatest hooker out there so I’m ready to go, ha ha,” stressed the “Filipino Flash” of his vaunted left hook that Casimero should look out for.
Although he admitted that Casimero packs a punch and throws many punches, Donaire said he’s no slouch in that department as well, citing his last fight against Inoue, who broke his right orbital bone at the Filipino’s hands when they fought in Saitama, Japan two years ago.
