THE Department of Labor and Employment is set to vaccinate some 2,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) today at the head office in Manila, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said yesterday in a briefing.
Bello said the OFWs who are set to be deployed will be given COVID-19 vaccines made by AstraZeneca, which were donated by Brunei.
“This will not only help accelerate the administration of the vaccines to thousands of Filipinos but will fast-track the deployment of our OFWs abroad,” Bello said.
DOLE said local recruitment and manning agencies have been directed to bring their unvaccinated outbound OFWs.
“It will be on a first-come, first-served basis, but those OFWs who will be deployed to Brunei will be prioritized,” said Bello.
The vaccination will be held at the Labor Governance Learning Center in Intramuros, Manila.
DOLE has asked the Manila City health department to administer the vaccination.
Outbound OFWs are already part of the expanded A1 priority group in the national COVID-19 vaccination program. — Gerard Naval
