AT least 40,000 local and overseas jobs are set to be offered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) when it holds an online job fair on June 12, when the country celebrates Independence Day.

In an online press briefing, Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said hundreds of employers have expressed their desire to offer jobs to jobseekers via the online job fair.

“There is a silver lining. There are always bright spots and good opportunities that we are able to look,” said Tutay.

For local jobs, among those to be offered are in the sectors of business process outsourcing, manufacturing, security, media broadcast, and retail while for overseas jobs, being eyed are applicants in the sectors of health, construction, services, as well as seafarers.

Last May 1, the DOLE also organized a nationwide online job fair in celebration of Labor Day.

During the Labor Day job fair, there were a total of 51,000 job vacancies offered, while those hired-on-the-spot was only at 4,000.

Tutay said that holding online job fairs is more challenging in terms of providing employment to the people as compared to actual face-to-face job fairs.

“There is that difficulty of being able to quickly scrutinize the papers of applicants. There are also times when it is harder to validate what is written on their credentials,” she said.
