THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday expressed support to the campaign of the Social Security System (SSS) to run after employers who have not settled their contributions for their employees.
In a media forum in Manila, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma called on all private sector employers to make sure they remit the contributions of their employees.
“To our employers, let us not withhold the remittance of the premium contributions of your employees, who are your partners in operating your businesses,” said Laguesma.
“Make sure that by the time they will need these (SSS) benefits, there will be no problems and they can avail them immediately,” he added.
Laguesma was seconded by the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), which said updated SSS contributions are necessary to ensure that benefits of its members are always available.
“We urge all employers to update their SSS contributions for workers to maximize the benefits their employees are entitled to,” said FFW in a statement.
“This call-to-action is essential for workers to secure their financial well-being and to help create a sustainable social security system for the country,” it added.
Earlier, the SSS revived its Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign, which encourages delinquent employers to settle their contribution backlogs.
SSS said it will be issuing notices to employers across the country that neglect their legal obligations of paying their employer and employees’ share in the premium contributions.
