THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday announced the temporary suspension of its emergency employment program in the second district of Palawan because of alleged anomalies involving program coordinators.
DOLE spokesman Rolly Francia said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has ordered the temporary suspension of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program in Palawan’s District 2.
TUPAD is an emergency employment assistance, wherein displaced workers are hired by the government for a limited period of work. In turn, worker-beneficiaries are paid the minimum wage prevailing in their respective regions.
Last month, Bello has also ordered the suspension of the TUPAD program in Quezon City’s second district due to supposed irregularities in its implementation.
“The decision to suspend was immediately made to prevent the further release of funds.
This is to prevent further losses on the part of the beneficiaries when the money goes to the hands of other people,” Francia said.
Francia said the DOLE has received reports of worker-beneficiaries being unable to take home the whole amount they are entitled to.
