OVER 136,000 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been sent to their provinces since last May, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III yesterday said that since the agency started transporting OFWs en masse, 136,509 OFWs have been safely brought home.
“The latest batch of 2,667 OFWs, who were cleared of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), were sent home on August 11,” said Bello.
He added the OFWs were also provided accommodation, food, and COVID-19 testing upon in the country. They were also given a the one-time P10,000 or $200 cash assistance for OFWs under the AKAP program.
Bello said the agency is ready to provide further assistance to repatriated OFWs by helping them find alternative employment opportunities.
Bello said this includes possible construction and maintenance jobs in Guam or in the business process outsourcing industry, especially those with background in the fields of information technology and healthcare.
