THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has failed to meet the hiring target in the nationwide simultaneous job fairs held as part of the Labor Day celebration.
According to the Labor Day Job Fair Report, it registered a mere 15.33 percent hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) success rate during the job fairs held from April 30 to May 1 in 39 sites across different regions.
This, after 4,728 job seekers were hired instantly out of the 30,837 who went to the job fairs.
Top positions filled during the fairs were service crew (248), cashier (139), call center agents (77), bagger (57), and merchandiser (57).
Last week, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said that their target for the HOTS is at 40 percent. The target is higher than the 10 percent average HOTS in previous simultaneous job fairs of the DOLE.
DOLE, however, said the numbers may still be considered as “partial” as four job fairs were still set to be held this week.
These are at the NCCC Mall, Tagum City, Davao del Norte on May 2; People’s Center, Balanga City, Bataan on May 3; Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, Malolos City, Bulacan on May 4; and at the 3rd Level Alabang Public Market on May 5.
DOLE also said 1,603 were provided assistance with training opportunities with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
Another 619 job seekers have also been provided with livelihood assistance opportunities through the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns during the job fairs.
