FROM just 10 days, worker-beneficiaries of the emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) may now be employed as long as three months.
DOLE-Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) Director Ma. Karen Trayvilla said this is under the expanded Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
“We have this expansion in the number of working days as compared to before… We extended it,” said Trayvilla, adding this is part of DOLE’s efforts to provide employment opportunities to the public amid the pandemic.
“It is our contribution to the National Employment Recovery Strategy, and we were instructed to look into it as a public employment program,” she said.
However, Trayvilla admitted that having added days of work for beneficiaries runs the risk of seeing fewer workers benefiting from TUPAD.
