AN employee of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was shot dead by two still unidentified men on board a motorcycle in Malate, Manila late yesterday.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III condemned the killing of Helen Dacanay (identified by DOLE as Ellen Dacanay) who was assigned at DOLE’s Manila field office.
“It is disturbing that a civilian official was murdered in a cowardly manner akin to executions by hired guns,” he said.
“I appeal to our law enforcement agencies to act immediately to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime,” he added.
As of press time, the Manila Police District is still waiting for a spot report.
But according to a radio report, Dacanay was driving her car at around 6 p.m. along Malvar Street in Malate, Manila when the men opened fire at her vehicle.
Dacanay was reportedly declared dead on arrival at an undisclosed hospital.
