CHANCES of being hired-on-the-spot are expected to be better when the Department of Labor and Employment holds the first face-to-face job fair in two years this Sunday as part of Independence Day celebrations.

In a virtual press briefing, DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said: “We have seen that there are more HOTS (hired-on-the-spot) during face-to-face job fairs than online.

There is that difference when the employer sees the applicant face-to-face.

“The decision making of the employer is faster once they are able to interact with the jobseekers,” she added.

Tutay also said that some regions are still set to hold online job fairs on June 12 in combination with physical job fairs.

She said five regions holding online and physical job fairs on Sunday are the National Capital Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Tutay said the other regions in the country are set to hold face-to-face job fairs on June 12, with over 135,000 local and overseas job vacancies to be offered by more than 1,000 employers.

In a televised public briefing, DOLE-Region 3 Assistant Regional Director Alejandro Cruz said those set to physically participate in the job fairs may also process their employment requirements at the venues.

“It has become a regular part of our job fairs to partner with different government agencies and establish a one-stop shop, where they can offer their services,” said Cruz.

Among the agencies participating in the job fairs are the Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Professional Regulation Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Social Security System, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Home Development Mutual Fund, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, among others.

Aside from processing their employment requirements, DOLE spokesman Rolly Francia said the job fairs will also host coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination activities.

He said the job fair venues will allow the administration of COVID-19 vaccines, both primary series and booster shots.
