THE Department of Justice-Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) yesterday said Facebook has removed the page being used to tag FB users with posts containing links to adult contents.

“As of this morning 11 a.m, April 21, 2021, the DOJ-OOC received confirmation from the Facebook APAP Legal Law Enforcement Outreach that the page associated with the malicious tagging has been removed and its administrators were sanctioned,” the DOJ-OOC said.

The OOC raised the matter with Facebook management after receiving reports that netizens are being tagged with posts containing a link to a lewd video.

The agency said that once a user clicked the provided link, he or she will be asked to install an apparent update in order to watch the video, which would result to more automatic and random tagging of other Facebook users while exposing the user to malware.

Despite the action taken by Facebook, the OOC warned netizens to be vigilant and stay away from or ignore unfamiliar links.

“If you happen to get a notification tagging you in a post that contains a link to an apparent adult content, do not click any further and report the post,” it said.

The OOC also warned that the introduction or transmission of viruses, including malware, as well as interference in the functioning of computer systems are acts prohibited under Republic Act 10175 or the Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012.
