JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has directed National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago to appoint the right people and go after erring NBI agents and those involved in Internet-related crimes.
DOJ Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Jose Dominic Clavano said these were Remulla’s marching orders when he met with Santiago last Friday.
A bemedalled police officer and retired regional trial court judge, Santiago assumed the top NBI post last month.
“The Secretary’s marching orders to (the) NBI Director were simple. First, make sure the most competent people are in the appropriate stations, expose erring agents and prevent cybercrime. Do the right things” Clavano said.
The NBI is an agency attached to the DOJ.
An official statement from the DOJ said Remulla and Santiago also discussed strategies to streamline investigative processes.
“The discussion focused on leveraging advanced technologies, fostering inter-agency cooperation, and effectively implementing policies to address emerging threats and other bureau concerns,” the DOJ said.
It added that Remulla and Santiago also emphasized the importance of transparency, efficiency, and accountability in their mission to uphold justice and ensure the safety of the public.
Earlier, Santiago said he would prioritize the faster processing of NBI clearances as well as going after scammers and cybercrime syndicates.
He added these will help increase the public trust in the agency.
Santiago also warned his subordinates he would not tolerate corruption or mediocrity in the service.
