THE Department of Justice said it is boosting its anti-cybercrime division amid the uptick in the number of cyber-related crimes.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said he has also discussed the matter with National Bureau of Investigation Director Medardo de Lemos on how the agency can boost the staffing of its anti-cybercrime division.
The NBI is the main investigating agency attached to the DOJ.
“We have discussed ways on how to strengthen our cybercrime divisions since the majority of crimes happening involved cyber-related acts,” Remulla said, adding around 70 percent of crimes reaching the NBI are cyber-related crimes.
“It is important to enhance the cybercrime divisions of the NBI and the DOJ and we are already looking at ways to do it,” he said, adding this includes the hiring of additional personnel for both divisions and strengthening the staffing pattern and training.
Last year, the NBI added 16 more personnel to its anti-cybercrime division, which is staffed by more than 200 personnel, including lawyers and certified public accountants.
