WITH families expected to troop to beaches and resorts to combat the heat, the Department of Health (DOH) yesterday advised the public not to ignore cases of sunburn.
In a press conference, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the public must seek medical attention when they experience sunburn, especially those not considered as mild.
“Sunburn is a form of skin burn. We consider it already as part of the dimension of skin burns,” said Vergeire. “We need to see a doctor so that you can be given proper medication or treatment.”
Vergeire said staying under the sun for a whole day may heighten the risks of developing skin cancer.
“Having constant exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. That is a known fact,” said Vergeire.
She advised the public to use sunscreen when going outdoors and under the heat of the sun.
