18K new cases reported
BED occupancy in all the 32 COVID-19 referral hospitals nationwide is at “high risk” of being overwhelmed because of the continuing surge in patients infected with the coronavirus disease, the Department of Health said yesterday.
In a bulletin, the DOH also reported 18,012 new COVID-19 cases. The latest figure, which does not include data from 13 laboratories, comes a day after the country recorded its single-day record high of 22,415 new cases .
The country now has 2,121,308 COVID-19 cases.
Data released by the DOH classified as “high risk” the overall occupancy rate in the 32 referral hospitals nationwide. Of the 6,808 COVID beds in those hospitals, 5,435 are occupied, or 80 percent. Of the 1,815 ICU beds, 1,440 or 79 percent are occupied.
Under the DOH classification system, “high risk” hospitals are those with occupancy rates of 70 percent to 85 percent.
Of the 32 referral hospitals, 14 are considered at “critical risk” or above 85 percent capacity.
The DOH said the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine and Amai Pakpak Medical Center are both at 100 percent occupancy for COVID-19 beds.
Other facilities at “critical risk” are Region I Medical Center and Southern Philippines Medical Center, both 99%; National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Lung Center of the Philippines, Baguio General Hospital, all 96%; Philippine General Hospital and Quirino Memorial Medical Center, 95%; Batangas Medical Center 92%; Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital and Dr Paulino Garcia Memorial Medical Center, 91%; Dr Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital 89%; and Cagayan Valley Medical Center (86%).
Five facilities are under the “high risk” classification. These are Western Visayas Medical Center (77%), Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (76%), Northern Mindanao Medical Center (75%), San Lazaro Hospital (71%), and Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (70%).
The DOH September 7 case bulletin the 13 laboratories were unable to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last September 5.
But based on data in the last 14 days, “the 13 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 3.6% of samples tested and 3.7% of positive individuals,” it said.
Of the new confirmed cases, here were 161 deaths, bringing the total to 34,498.
The case fatality rate stood at 1.63.
The DOH reported 18,945 new recoveries, or a total 1,928,173. This means 90.9 percent recovery.
A total of 158,637 cases remain active, or 7.5 percent of the COVID-19 cases in the country. Of the active cases, 92 percent are mild cases, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 2.4 percent are moderate, 1.4 percent are severe, and 0.7 percent are critical cases.
