DOH: 7,255 new cases; no data from 15 laboratories

NINETY-FOUR more died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while there were 7,255 new cases yesterday, which the Department of Health said did not include figures from 15 laboratories that failed to submit data last May 1.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country rose to 1,062,225 while the death toll climbed to 17,525 for a case fatality rate of 1.65.

Active cases dipped to 69,466 from 71,472 last Sunday, with 94.7 percent of them mild cases, 1.8 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.4 percent severe cases, 1.1 percent critical cases, and 0.94 percent moderate cases.

The DOH also reported that 9,214 more patients have recovered, raising the number of survivors to 975,234.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said 10 more overseas Filipinos tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, bringing to 18,390 the total number of Filipinos in 94 countries and territories who have caught the deadly virus.

The DFA said it received no new reports of fatalities while there were three new recoveries, bringing the number of overseas Filipinos who survived the virus to 11,277. The death toll stood at 1,147.

The Middle East and African regions have the most number of Filipinos who got sickened by the virus and deaths with 10,453 and 747, respectively.

Asia and the Pacific region reported 3,594 cases, the second highest among members of the Filipino community, but it has the lowest number of deaths with only 29.

The DFA said 3,363 Filipinos have tested positive for the virus in Europe. Europe reported the third highest death toll among Filipinos with 130.

The Americas has the lowest number of cases with 980 but the second highest death toll with 241. — With Ashzel Hachero
