TO accelerate the reverse migration phenomenon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is urging overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) looking to return home to the Philippines for good to consider jobs and business opportunities in the local travel and tourism industry.
In a statement after forging a partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), DMW Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they are hoping returning OFWs would consider entering the tourism industry and no longer leave for jobs abroad.
“No OFW wouldn’t want to come home for good. Everyone has plans for their families and communities,” said Cacdac.
“This partnership with the DOT is a huge help for our OFWs to come home with their families while having a sustainable source of income in the local tourism sector,” he added.
Under the “Balik Bayani sa Turismo” program, OFWs and their families may avail of free tourism-related training in culinary tourism, farm tourism, homestay operations, and tour guiding.
The program also offers OFWs with extensive experience in language skills or tourism-related activities to be part of the DOT’s pool of experts, including opportunities as resource persons in various government programs.
