THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against unscrupulous individuals offering bogus job offers in Italy.

In a statement, the DMW said the public should be cautious against job offers of non-existent jobs in Italy in exchange for illegal and exorbitant placement and consultancy fees.

“We denounce reported acts of massive illegal recruitment schemes preying on OFWs being charged with illegal and exorbitant placement and consultancy fees and lured into non-existent jobs in Italy,” said DMW.

“The DMW warns the public on offers of fake overseas job offers and the illegal collection of exorbitant placement fees,” it added.

The department said it is issuing the warning after receiving reports of at least 100 individuals being victimized by illegal recruiters.

It said the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) is already documenting and investigating the complaints.

The DMW said its Migrant Workers Office in Milan (MWO-Milan) is involved in the investigation of the agencies and individuals both in Italy and the Philippines allegedly involved in the scheme.

The DMW also urged other victims of the illegal recruitment activities to contact the government and report such offenses.

Reports, the DMW said, may be coursed through the Facebook page of the MWPB at https://www.facebook.com/airbranch; or email at mwpb@dmw.gov.p h; or hotline number +63 2 8721-0619.
