THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said it will provide the necessary assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were injured when they were rammed by a vehicle while riding their bikes in the Arabian Gulf Road in Kuwait last Friday.

In a media briefing, DMW Secretary Susan Ople said medical assistance shall be provided to the 15 injured OFWs, whose hospitalization is being shouldered by the Kuwaiti government.

“We have been visiting our cyclists and are assessing their needs… all help will be extended to them during their period of recovery,” said Ople.

“The DMW will shoulder the medicines that they will need after the release from the hospitals and for their physical therapy needs,” she added.

Ople said they are also looking to provide financial assistance to the families of the injured OFWs.

“We are getting in touch with their families since many of them will surely be unable to go back to work immediately,” said Ople.

As to the ongoing investigation of the case against the SUV driver, she said they shall leave the matter to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“The DFA said the victims have been afforded legal assistance by the (Philippine) Post,” Ople said.

The DFA said 11 of the 15 victims were immediately brought to hospitals for treatment, with two in critical condition.
