THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday said no Filipino worker was hurt in earthquakes that hit Japan yesterday and Taiwan on Sunday.
This was based on reports from the DMW’s Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Osaka, Japan and MWO in Taipei, Taiwan.
A 4.8 magnitude tremor shook the Noto Peninsula located in Honshu, Japan. In Taiwan, two earthquakes measuring 4.8 and 4.4 magnitude quakes were detected at sea some 21.2 kilometers south of Hualien County.
The DMW said it would continue to monitor the conditions of Filipino workers in Japan and Taiwan.
“MWO-Osaka is working closely with Filipino communities and Japanese authorities to ascertain the safety and status of our OFWs in the region,” it said.
“MWO-Taipei is working closely with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and relevant Taiwan government agencies to ascertain the safety and status of our kababayans,” the DMW said.
