THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday called on all eligible overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to take advantage of the online review sessions the agency is holding to give them a chance to become licensed professionals.
Speaking during the 2023 Post-SONA Discussions, Migrant Workers Undersecretary Maria Anthonette Velasco-Allones said they are hoping more OFWs who have not passed licensure exams of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) can participate in the online review.
“This year, we started conducting online review sessions… We and our private sector partners provide online reviews for OFWs,” said Allones.
“It is impressive how there are OFWs that take the review during their break times,” she added.
She said the online review sessions will be helpful in enabling eligible OFWs to pass the PRC licensure exams, which are also being held abroad.
“We have many nurses and teachers and other professionals abroad that are not yet board passers,” she said.
Allones said the program is part of the government’s efforts to encourage OFWs to return home and work locally.
“Once they decide to come home, they are already board passers and they can practice their professions here,” said Allones.
During his second State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Marcos Jr. said it is the government’s hope that overseas employment will soon be driven “by choice, not by necessity.”
Marcos said they are also enhancing their reintegration programs for all returning OFWs.
