MORE than 6,000 overseas employment opportunities are set to be offered by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) when it holds the Independence Day Mega Jobs Fair this Wednesday at the Robinsons Galleria-Ortigas in Quezon City.
In an advisory, the DMW said there are 6,558 approved job orders to be offered during the one-day event set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“There will be 21 participating recruitment agencies (17 land-based, 4 sea-based) offering 6,558 approved job orders,” said the DMW.
The Department said the event will be held at Level 3 of Robinsons Galleria-Ortigas just across the DMW head office.
Registration for the job fair will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The event will be held as part of the country’s celebration of its 126th independence anniversary.
With hundreds expected to troop to the Independence Day job fairs, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is urging interested jobseekers to get pre-registered.
In a social media post, the DOLE said it would be better for jobseekers if they would pre-register online and have their resumes submitted online in advance.
“Register on philjobnet.gov.ph and create your profile,” said DOLE.
After pre-registering, it said job seekers may search for the position they intend to apply for in the online job portal.
“Submit your application through the portal,” said DOLE.
Before submitting, however, the Department reminded jobseekers to tailor their letter and resume to their desired role and company.
Additionally, it said job seekers must make sure their contact details are updated.
The DOLE is set to hold Independence Day job fairs in at least 43 sites nationwide tomorrow, Wednesday.
At least 106,298 local jobs and 5,165 overseas jobs are set to be offered by more than 1,000 employers.
Amid the continued presence of China in the West Philippine Sea, an official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday called on the Filipino faithful to stand up and help the country maintain its independence.
In a statement ahead of the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, CBCP-Office on Stewardship Chairman Bishop Broderick Pabillo asked the faithful to speak out whenever they see attempts to violate the country’s independence.
“Let us thank the Lord for our independence. This is the blessing of the Lord that we became independent. But this blessing must be protected,” said Pabillo.
“Let us strive to maintain this independence by speaking out to protect our independence whenever we see attempts to violate this independence,” he added.
The Taytay (Palawan) prelate said such a reminder could not be more appropriate than now when China is strongly making its presence felt in the West Philippine Sea.
“During these times, we are concerned over the China problem since this may eventually lead to conflict and take away our independence,” said Pabillo.
He said the country must make sure that it is not being controlled by “Western countries” on how to respond to China’s aggression.
“Let us not be subservient to Western powers. We should have our own freedom and decision-making, and not just be dictated by Western powers,” he said.
The call comes amid the continued aggression of China in the West Philippine Sea, with its Foreign Ministry suggesting that the Philippines must first notify China before accessing the Ayungin Shoal.
In response, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año said the Philippines would never seek China’s approval when pursuing activities at the shoal near Palawan.
