DMW issues guidelines on Kuwait amnesty offer

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has issued the guidelines for overstaying Filipinos in Kuwait who want to avail themselves of the amnesty program offered by the Kuwaiti government.

The government of Kuwait is offering a three-month amnesty period, from March 17 to June 17, 2024, for migrants whose stay in the Arab country is no longer valid.. This includes overstaying migrant workers, specifically those whose Civil IDs have expired or have been canceled.

The DMW said its Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait released the step-by-step process which overstaying Filipinos can follow to avail of the program.

Among others, it said that overstaying Filipinos without a valid passport who wish to apply or regularize their stay in Kuwait need to apply for a new passport at the Philippine Embassy during the amnesty period,

On the other hand, overstaying foreigners, including their family members, who wish to continue their residency in Kuwait may adjust their immigration status provided that they pay for overstaying fines and comply with other requirements;

It also said that overstaying foreigners who depart Kuwait during the amnesty period may return after complying with the Kuwaiti government’s entry requirements.

The DMW also said that overstaying foreigners may leave Kuwait without having to pay immigration fines. However, those with travel bans and pending criminal complaints or cases can depart only after these are resolved.

Those who refuse to depart will be subject to arrest and permanent deportation after the grace period.

As of 24 March 2024, the DMW said the MWO-Kuwait has responded to at least 500 queries related to the amnesty program.
