A RELATIVE of the late Migrant Workers secretary Susan Ople yesterday questioned asked about the removal of the name of the late former senator Blas in the agency’s head office in Mandaluyong City.

In a social media post, content creator Carlo Ople said he was saddened by the absence of the “Blas F. Ople Bldg.” signage near the top of the building of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

“Drove by Edsa yesterday and was saddened to see that the Department of Migrant Workers took down the name of my late grandfather from the building,” he said.

“To anyone who works at the DMW that can read this (or if you know someone from DMW na pwede niyo i-tag or forward to), my question is… why did you take it down and who ordered it?” he added.

In a statement, the DMW said the absence of the signage is due to the ongoing renovation and upgrading of its head office’s facade.

“As part of this project, the old Blas F. Ople bldg signage was removed so we could put in a newer, better signage,” it said.

Ople, in the post, noted the head office of the former Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has been known as the Blas F. Ople building since 2004.

It was named in honor of Blas Ople, who is the acknowledged “Father of Overseas Employment” and father of Susan “Toots” Ople who died last year.

Susan, is the first secretary of the DMW which is now headed by Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac as officer-in-charge.
