AFTER nearly a decade, displaced overseas Filipino workers are set to finally receive their back wages from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
In an advisory, “ DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the department received information from “Al Kheraiji Law Office regarding the payments of the claims of former workers of Saudi Oger and Mohammad Al Mojil Group.
“Lists of the workers included in the first batches eligible for pay-outs have been released to the respective group leaders of the abovementioned companies,” he added.
The DMW said workers included in the lists are advised to coordinate with their group leaders to facilitate the release of their payments.
The workers are also encouraged to contact the DMW to update their contact information through the hotline (+639205171059), email (saudiclaims@dmw.gov.ph), or website (www.dmw.gov.ph).
Thousands of displaced OFWs were left unpaid in 2015 and 2016 after several Saudi construction firms declared bankruptcy.
Subsequently, the Philippine government repatriated the displaced workers while continuously negotiating for their unpaid claims with the Saudi government.
In late 2022, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman committed to shoulder the unpaid salaries of some 10,000 displaced Saudi OFWs.
Details of the financial settlement were, then, subjected to continued talks between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
