Displaced families in Occ Mindoro get aid from DSWD

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday said it has provided more than P312,500 worth of assistance to more than 200 families in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro who were forced to evacuate following an encounter between the Philippine Army and the New People’s Army (NPA) during the weekend.

The DSWD said 284 families, or 1,366 individuals, are now staying with relatives or friends outside of Barangay Ligaya in Sablayan after the encounter, which happened last July 15 and resulted in one death.

It said at least 250 family food acks and 81 hygiene kits amounting to P312,525.85 were distributed to the evacuees, while a P10,000 burial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, was given to the family of the victim.

DSWD said it will continue to monitor the situation of the affected families to ensure that their needs are sufficiently met.
