THE Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday said it is still verifying reports by Japanese media that the DNA of one of the two Filipinos arrested for allegedly abandoning the dead bodies of a couple in Tokyo has matched the DNA found in the murder weapon.

DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega said the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is still looking into the reports.

“That is Japanese news reports, not officially confirmed to the Embassy,” De Vega said.

“The embassy is still verifying but we can confirm that they are being investigated for double murder,” he added.

He said the DFA is ready to provide legal assistance to the two, who were rearrested last Saturday.

De Vega previously said the two are being investigated for leaving the body of a Japanese couple identified as Norihiro and Kimi Takahashi in a flat and were not considered suspects.
